Shared Resources: Pools
Posted by Whitney Benedetti on December 17, 2024
Our lap pool and family pool are wonderful resources for all of our members to utilize. As we approach winter, the RAC gets busier and there can be more people attempting to use the pools. This can increase wait times for the lap pool especially, but can also impact family pool usage. Because of this we thought it would be good time to share some information to help members plan for pool usage.
Sharing Lap Pool Lanes
Any of the 5 lanes are able to be shared by more than one swimmer/water fitness user. While there is no expectation that you share a lane, and there can be very relevant reasons for not sharing (rehabbing an injury), we do encourage you to share when you are able. Make sure to communicate with the swimmer/water fitness user if they are already in the lane. If you are the one in the lane and are offering to share with someone on the deck waiting, let them know.
RAC Instructors Using a Lane to Teach
RAC instructors teaching in the Lap Pool prefer using the outside lanes in order to be able to see and communicate with students and may ask you to move or share lanes if possible. This can happen whether they are teaching group lessons, which are scheduled well in advance and able to be published for you to see, or private lessons which are often scheduled on a week-to-week basis and harder to publish. In either case we do our best to accommodate all members and how they want to use the pool for exercise/training purposes.
Less Busy Times in the Lap Pool
There are peak and non-peak times, although these can fluctuate based on day of the week and season. Generally speaking, when school is in session, the lap pool is typically less busy. Later in the evening also tends to have a lighter demand. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are quieter as well.
Posted Club Programming in Both Pools
It is good to be aware that both Group Fitness Classes and Group Swimming Lessons schedules are posted in the pool area on the bulletin board next to the drinking fountain. Group Swim Lessons and Private Swim Lessons are taught at key times for the demographic they are intended as well as based on instructor’s availability. Aquatics does not have any full-time instructors so instructors also have full-time employment elsewhere, go to school, have families, and other obligations creating a narrow window of times for them to offer and provide lessons.
We value all memberships and try to accommodate members as much as we can. We appreciate your cooperation with sharing lanes, being respectful of each other while you wait, and trying to avoid peak posted times to minimize or even alleviate any frustrations with family pool and lap pool usage.
